Transcendence Sculpture in Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon is somewhat known for being a refuge of sorts for people looking to leave an artistic impact on the world, making the sculpture Transcendence fit right in. Fittingly located in the brickwork at the northwestern corner of Southwest Salmon Street and Southwest Park Avenue, the welded bronze depicts a giant salmon swimming through the bricks. The 11 foot (3.4 meter) long, hand forged sculpture by American artist Keith Jellum is a well known, often visited, and highly photographed piece of art in a city filled with tourist attractions. Over the time it has been swimming through the third story of the building, Transcendence has become as much a part of the city as the Portland Saturday Market and Powell’s Books.
